#3 Why are proper shoes and gear important?
In video #3 of our 18-week Training Talks video series, co-owner of Columbus Running Company, Eric Fruth, talks about the importance of proper running shoes and gear.
On average, a walker/runner will take 1,500-2,000 steps per mile which can be a lot of stress on the body. This is one of the many reasons proper gear is so essential to healthy, happy training.
In addition to the tips Eric offers, here are some other important tips for great gear and it can work for you!
Bright colored clothing while training at dusk – even better if it’s moisture wicking and keeps you cool
Light-colored hats for training when it’s hot outside
Great pair of socks that reduce the risk of blistering and keep your feet nice and cool
Shoes that are fitted to YOU to keep your body moving smoothly
Good water bottle to keep you hydrated
Body Glide to eliminate chafing
Running watch to help you keep a steady pace
Earbuds or speaker for music (remember, while headphones are not banned on race day, we prefer you not use them during the race for safety reasons)
Proper gear makes all the difference on race day--but it’s critical to try it out before the big day! Be sure to give your body some time to adjust to the new shoes, shorts or whatever it might be that you’re upgrading. You will thank yourself for it later!
