#18 What should I take with me to the race and put in my gear check bag? With Dan Leite
Our last Training Talk Video is LIVE! This week, Dan Leite, Columbus Marathon Board Chairman, joins us to talk about what you might put in your Dick’s Sporting Goods Gear Check bag on race day.
Set out the essentials before race morning! Don’t wait to get your shoes, socks, sunscreen and other race-day essentials ready for the big day. Race morning is not the time to be rushing around trying to remember the things you need to make your day a successful one.
Write down all the things you know you’ll want to have on race day; then you’ll have a running list (pun intended) to organize everything before race morning. You might not think of everything in one sitting, so making a list can help you keep track of the things that come to mind leading up to the race.
Read that again! With just a few days until race day, you should be actively making a list and figuring out everything you need.
Here are a few things to help kick-start your race day essentials list:
Clothes (Check out Tip #3 for more information on what to wear on race day)
Pins, magnets, or a running beltto fasten your bib
Hydration vest if you are planning to wear one (yes, they are allowed, but subject to search)
Ear buds or headphones if you want them (With 60+ entertainment options along the course, you really don’t need them! Check out information about course entertainment here)
Your favorite pre- or post-race snack (Remember there will be bananas, apples, chocolate milk, and other sweet and salty snacks for participants in Celebration Village after crossing the finish line)
Clothes to change into after the race (Check out Tip #14 on Post Race Recovery for more information)
Prepare early so you don’t forget anything! This will help calm your nerves as you head into race morning, put your belongings in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Gear Check Tent, and get to the starting line ready to run OUR race!
What are some items you always make sure to add to your gear check bag? Please put any of your recommendations and tips in the comments below.
Thanks for watching! We can’t wait to see you at the starting line on Sunday!
