Striding Sliders
Pace Team

Nationwide Children's Hospital Columbus Marathon logo

In 1999, the Columbus Marathon was among the first races in the country to have a pace team, which if you aren't familiar is a group of experienced runners who finish in a specific time while encouraging others to join them.

That team is formally known as the Striding Sliders Pace Team, provided by, you guessed it, Columbus-based White Castle!

After a break in 2020 and 2021, the Striding Sliders will again offer groups for the following Marathon times:

  • 3:00, 3:30, 3:40, 3:50, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, 4:45, 5:00, and 5:30

Groups for the 1/2 Marathon will include:

  • 1:30, 1:45, 1:50, 2:00, 2:15, 2:30, and 2:45

On race morning, pace team leaders will line up on the right hand side of the street, facing the starting line, with signs indicating their finish times.  All pace leaders will run even splits, meaning each mile will be run in approximately the smae time, with appropriate adjustments for prominent uphills or downhills.

Whether this is your first race or you are an experienced marathoner or 1/2 marathoner, the Striding Sliders Pace Team can help you achieve your goal: A personal best, a Boston Marathon qualifying time, or just getting across the finish line.

This is a free service, and there is no need to sign up - learn more at the Health & Fitness Expo, and meet our Striding Sliders below!
