I know that participating in a road race is a potentially hazardous activity. I should not enter and participate unless I am medically able to do so and properly trained. I voluntarily assume all risks associated with participating in this event, including, but not limited to: falls; contact with other participants; effects of weather; traffic, and course conditions, all such risks, being known and understood by me. I am aware that medical support for this event will be provided by volunteer personnel who may be called upon to provide assistance, including first aid, to me during the event. I authorize any such volunteer to assist me or to perform such assistance as, in the opinion of such person, may be necessary or appropriate. I understand, acknowledge and agree that the Nationwide Children's Hospital Columbus Marathon & 1/2 Marathon and The Columbus Marathon assume no responsibility or liability with respect to my participation in this event.

I recognize that the World Health Organization has declared the 2019 novel coronavirus ("COVID-19") a worldwide pandemic. I understand that COVID-19 is extremely contagious and is believed to spread by person-to-person contact, by contact with contaminated surfaces and objects, and even possibly by air. I acknowledge the contagious nature of COVID-19 and voluntarily assume the risk of exposure to or infection by COVID-19 by participating in the event. I know that The Columbus Marathon cannot guarantee that infections transmission will not occur. I understand that the risks associated with COVID-19 include but are not limited to serious and potentially life threatening illness, long-term health effects, and even death. I have read and understood the above warning about COVID-19. Knowing these facts, I wish to participate, and in consideration of The Columbus Marathon's acceptance of my entry fee, knowingly and voluntarily assume the associated risks with in-person participation. I agree to abide by The Columbus Marathon's rules and protocols for the 2022 event.

I also agree to abide by the Center for Disease Control's (CDC) recommendations for the prevention of the spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) and other communicable diseases, and I attest to having read the CDC's guidance at:

I also understand Race organizers reserve the right to alter or possibly even drop requirements should conditions regarding COVID-19 and its variants change and in keeping with any changes made in CDC guidance.

I agree to abide by any decision of any race official relative to my ability to safely complete the event. I hereby grant permission to the Nationwide Children's Hospital Columbus Marathon & 1/2 Marathon and The Columbus Marathon, and their sponsors, to use any photographs, motion pictures, videos, recordings, or any record for the event for legitimate purposes. I agree to abide by the rules of the event as stated in all official event information. Having read this document and knowing these facts and in consideration of The Columbus Marathon accepting my entry, I, for myself and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, do hereby covenant not to sue, and waive, release and forever discharge the Nationwide Children's Hospital Columbus Marathon & 1/2 Marathon, The Columbus Marathon, the City of Columbus, USATF, and all sponsors, representatives (including event volunteers), directors, officers and employees of any of them, from all claims, demands, causes of action, or liabilities of any kind (including those relating to COVID-19) arising out of my participation in the event, even though that liability may arise out of negligence or carelessness on the part of the persons named previously in this sentence. The foregoing covenant not to sue, waiver, release and discharge should be interpreted broadly, to the fullest extent allowable by the laws of the State of Ohio.

I acknowledge and agree that (i) individuals participating in the event may be subject to formal drug testing in accordance with USA Track & Field rules and IAAF rule 144, (ii) individuals found positive for banned substances or who refuse testing will be disqualified from the event and will lose eligibility for future events, and (iii) some prescription and over-the-counter medications contain banned substances. Information regarding drugs and drug testing may be obtained by calling the USOC Hot Line at 1-800-233-0393.

I also understand, acknowledge and agree that the 1/2 Marathon course closes in 4 hours, and the Marathon course closes in 6 1/2 hours. If I am unable to maintain a 14:54 minute-per-mile pace in the Marathon past Mile 12.5, I agree to be diverted to the finish line and awarded a Marathon medal and a 1/2 Marathon finishing time.
