The Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon features a flat, fast course which saw 15 percent of finishers qualify for Boston in 2007. The course's cloverleaf design allows spectators to see their athletes at several different points — all within a single city block. The course begins downtown and takes athletes east through Bexley, past the Governor's Mansion and Capital University;west through the festive neighborhood of Old Town East; south through historic German Village; up a five-mile straightaway on High Street that includes the Short North Arts District; a jaunt through Upper Arlington, returning through the campus of The Ohio State University to Victorian Village and back to a huge crowd awaiting the finishers outside Nationwide Arena.
