Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon - Celebrating 30 Years: Sunday Oct. 18, 2009

Register by September 30 and save!

The E-Road To Columbus!

Keeping you up-to-date with YOUR Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon on Oct. 18, 2009!

In this e-blast:

Race Fields Filling Up Fast – Are You In?

Attention! Attention! This just in! The 2009 Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon is about 80 percent full, more than two-thirds of the spots in the ½ Marathon field are spoken for, and we have twice as many registrants in the Corporate Wellness 5k compared to last year!

We hate to be bad news bearers, but at the pace things are going this year, we may have to tell some folks before the end of September that they can’t take part in these events due to a sellout!

We’re serious. This is our job! If you want to take part in the 30th anniversary of the Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon, ½ Marathon or Corporate Wellness 5k, register now before we have to be the bad guys we don’t want to be and tell you there is no more room in this year’s field. Thanks!

TweetMyTime To Debut At Marathon!

Twitter is all the rage these days, and your experience in the Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon can be cutting edge thanks to this technological phenomenon.

For the first time ever in a running or walking event, participants in this year’s race can have reports of their progress automatically “tweeted” at each of five checkpoints along the course! These updates will include the athlete’s progress and estimated finish time, and can even be sent to Facebook!

TweetMyTime is a FREE service that works with the ChampionChip timing device each registered athlete will wear on race day to record his or her time.

To participate in this free service, registered participants in the Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon can sign up at TweetMyTime.com. For those not yet registered, visit columbusmarathon.com for registration information (may take up to 48 hours to verify registration). Once registration for both the marathon and TweetMyTime is confirmed, the program will kick in as soon as the start line is crossed on race day!

We Need Your Artistic Direction!

Seems like an odd request, but our design team is busy working on the logo of our great event for 2010 and beyond and we want YOUR input! We would very much appreciate you taking a few, quick minutes to answer six simple logo questions for us – click here.

We’re Going To OSU For The Day!

One of our goals for the Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon is to increase the involvement of students from The Ohio State University, either as participants or spectators. Rather than just wishing and hoping these young folks will wake up early and come out to support the event on October 18 (fat chance!), we are taking our message to them!

Members of our team will represent the Marathon at Buck-i-Frenzy, a lifestyle festival being held Sept. 22 in and around the Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC), during Ohio State's Welcome Week! We will register students for free giveaways, tell them about the thousands of people who will be outside their dorms and houses on a Sunday morning in October – as opposed to a gameday Saturday – and encourage them to come out and run with or at least cheer for you!

Challenge Others, Challenge Yourself!

The Step By Step Corporate Wellness Challenge is part of YOUR Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon Weekend, as a way to introduce people to a lifestyle of fitness and to keep those already active focused on staying healthy! Participants in the Challenge register with co-workers, members of their church, clubs, walking groups, etc., and can take part in the 5K, 1/2 marathon or full marathon. Team registration is easy! Visit www.stepbystepchallenge.com and get started! Are you or a potential team member already registered for one of the events? No problem. Just contact stacywalters@columbusmarathon.com or juliewilkes@columbusmarathon.com after you register your team name, and your participants will be moved to the team! Step up and be counted by taking part in the Step By Step Corporate Wellness Challenge!

More Than Just A Footrace …

The Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon Wheelchair and Handcycle Division, sponsored by SpinLife.com, is gearing up to be our most exciting yet! Not only is the race one of the few to offer prize money for the wheelchair and handcycle divisions, as well as a designated parking and pre-race area, but it also has a "near-perfect course" according to several of last year's racers. It's flat and fast, making it ideal for competitive and recreational racers alike. Want more information about the Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon Wheelchair and Handcycle Division sponsored by SpinLife.com? Email us!

Community Spotlight – Grandview Heights

In this issue of our e-newsletter, we must give a shout-out to one of the communities through which the marathon passes – Grandview Heights! Located between roughly miles 20 and 22, folks in this ‘burg are planning to party and cheer for you on race day! To learn a bit about this very cool corner of Central Ohio, visit their website, GrandviewHeights.org (this includes information about the 31st Annual Great Pumpkin Run on October 24 – you’ll be well rested by then!)
