The End Is Near (For Early Bird Pricing)!

We don’t want to cause a panic, but you only have a few days to take advantage of early bird pricing on registration for this year’s Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon & 1/2 Marathon!!! Until July 31, 2009, the fees are ONLY $65 for the Marathon and $50 for the 1/2 Marathon. Register online and use the money you save to buy ice cream after your next long training run!

Keeping Cool As Training Heats Up …

Speaking of ice cream, staying cool during your training is quite possible, even in the heat of summer, provided you plan for it. By way of example: recently a group of local runners traveled to Death Valley to serve as crew members for the Badwater 135 Ultramarathon, in which temperatures rose to 120 degrees. Yet they kept their runner cool with water spray and frequent hydration stops – his body temperature never rose more than a couple of degrees. You can follow a similar plan – carry water to drink and to squirt on your head (keep it out of your shoes!), or know where water faucets or hoses can be found on your training route. Don’t drink so much that you cause stomach cramping, just drink frequently!  Get used to drinking during your training runs, so the water stops during the Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon & 1/2 Marathon become welcome centers on the road to the finish line!

Pssst … Wanna Hang A Poster In Your Business?

To help spread the word about the Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon & 1/2 Marathon, we are seeking places to put up our event posters. We already are going to gyms, restaurants, coffee shops and businesses along the route, but we’d love to get them into other locations. If your company would be willing to put up a poster for the October 18 event, whether in areas the public will see or even in employee-only areas such as breakrooms, please contact sarah@irvinpr.com.

Words To Run By...

“Running is something that hurts. It's a wonderful thing. It's a gift in my life. But it's painful, and it hurts and takes a lot of time. Have patience. Stick with it.”
- Kara Goucher, American running phenom & first U.S. woman finisher, 2009 Boston Marathon
