Spring Is Here – Run With It!
| |
|
We survived one of the worse winters in history, and the roads, paths and tracks are snow-free and ready to be trounced upon! Here are a few tips to make your running more enjoyable this time of year!
- Taking it outdoors – You might have been doing your running on a treadmill in the winter and now want to hit the pavement. Running outside can feel more taxing, since you are powering yourself forward rather than the ground rolling beneath you. Slow your pace a little until you get used to the sensation of terra firma.
- Dress light, but right – There is no better way to ruin a run than to be overdressed. Unfortunately early Spring weather can be fickle, cold one moment and warm the next. It can also be wet. Dress in light layers with a waterproof shell if rain is threatening, and you can’t go wrong!
- Watch out for bikes – We share the road and paths with folks on two wheels, and sometimes these folks aren’t as polite as they could be. Before crossing, turning around or passing someone on a bike path, look back over your shoulder to make sure a bicyclist isn’t barreling down on you!

Going to Boston? Qualified at Columbus? Tell Us Your Story!
| |
|
Last month we noted that for many runners, the road to the Boston Marathon goes through Columbus. We have more qualifiers each year than any other Ohio marathon, for example, and we are in the top 10 nationally for total number of qualifiers! That got us to thinking: Who used Columbus as their qualifier to get into Boston, and how significant was their experience here to earn the right to run in New England this April 19? We’d love to hear from you! Please send a note to sarah@irvinpr.com, or hit us up on Facebook!
