Winter Training? Happy Times!

Yes, attitude is everything, especially when it comes to being a runner in the winter. And despite what some think, the options for beating the winter running doldrums are many!

  • Treadmills are great, especially for doing faster running in a controlled environment. Want to do some speedwork? Press a few buttons, and try to keep up! Music, water, towel, right at your fingertips, too!
  • Indoor tracks also offer a great place for doing faster workouts without the weather causing problems. Switch directions on the track every other workout to ease stress on ankles, foot arches or knees.
  • The weather outside might still be frightful, but layering makes it delightful. All the running stores around town and online running retailers will be happy to get you in the right gear!
  • Try trails! There is a level of peacefulness derived from running in the woods or open fields that you just can’t find on the streets, sidewalks or bike paths. You can even slow your pace down a bit and still get in a great workout since you are using different muscles from climbing and descending hills and jumping creeks and logs.
  • Smile. Seriously! When faced with something negative, like heading outside into the cold for a run, try curling the corners of your mouth upward. Feel the energy change? Repeat as necessary!

Starting Line Corrals - New For 2010!

The 2010 Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon & 1/2 Marathon will feature a brand-new Corral starting system! Our goal is to cut congestion, properly line up runners and walkers, and create a great experience for all participants! You MUST submit a previous race time upon registration to be properly assigned a corral; all times and events will be verified! Click here for full details!

The Road to Boston Goes Through Columbus!

The 2010 Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon & 1/2 Marathon is often referred to as flat & fast. Here are some statistics from www.marathonguide.com, validating these claims by showcasing how many of our 2009 runners qualified for the Boston Marathon!

  • One out of every five runners, or 818 total, qualified for Boston at Columbus, more than at any other Ohio marathon!
  • Nationally, Columbus ranked in the Top 10 for total number of qualifiers. Not surprisingly, big races such as Boston, New York and Chicago led the pack. Bet you didn’t know, though, that Columbus had more qualifiers than such notable races as Austin, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Pittsburgh, all the Rock-n-Roll races, and even mega-races such as Disney, Honolulu and Los Angeles!
